Boy that sounds like fun! :D ! I remeber fishing offshore with my dad(who else!!!) Near one of the islands far offshore is an island that has a nice ledge. It does not show even at the lowest tide. One day we thought it broke, but a closer look showed us it was school of mackeral! There must have been a tuna chasing it! WOW!!! We used to see whales too, but now they are far out now. SAD!
You are lucky to fish for tuna where you live. I want to some day. Thanks for the tip about the jig.I will look for it online. Thanks! Good fishing!

Aloha Robin,
Welcome to the group! I'm a warm saltwater fisherman
that lives on a desert island in the middle of the
Pacific Ocean. I fish nearly every weekend for tuna,
mahimahi, wahoo, marlin and sailfish. But I really
miss my freshwater fishing for bass, crappie,
bluegill, trout, salmon and steelies. I really enjoy
reading the postings here because it reminds me I
still have freshwater fishing on my agenda of things
to do. Never heard of those lures you're talking
about but I have been using this new jig out of Japan
called the butterfly jig you may want to try. I have
used it for Tuna, fishing it near a bunch of sea birds
sitting on the water (they're looking at tuna feeding
deep underwater), jigging for snapper and grouper,
even trolling (catching spanish mackeral for bait).
It ought to work for cod and pollack. If they are
anything like the Tomcod in the Pacific, they'll bite
anything shiny.
Good luck finding your lures. Here's hoping for tight
lines and screaming reels to you. Aloha.
