Last weekend a good friend of mine gave me a gift. He gave me an adze. Up until now I have been using a hand saw and my smaller carving knives to shape my pieces. I used the adze to shape out my new salmon. It was a bit awkward at first but I got the hang of it quite fast. My nephew said I would likely wreck my first couple of carving when I started using an adze but ...I didn't!! My arm was a bit sore but at least I did not cut my leg up! lol
The adze will allow me to do larger pieces.
So...I have a old woman portrait mask up....the auction is over in about 1 day 15 hours. The mask is done in red cedar. This is a bit larger than the red cedar ones I have been doing. Oh...and the mark across the back is just the line for hanging.....not a crack.
My second auction is another sockeye salmon. This one is done in yellow cedar. On this piece I just used the carving for the design..no paint. It is hard to show the detail in the pictures. It is on a temporary stand..the one it will come with will be made of yellow cedar also.
