| ![]() | Under the radar of the Australian sportfishing establishment, anglers in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria are quietly stockpiling caches of Secret Weapon. They have discovered that Australian Bass, Murray Cod, and Golden Perch particularly susceptible to Secret Weapon's unique vibration and flash If you consider driving one hour to buy the exact lure you want to be extreme, imagine how dedicated to his sport an angler must be to search half-way around the world for the perfect spinnerbait! One such extreme angler is Shane Dykes of Wangaratta, Victoria, whose weapon of choice for both Murray Cod and Golden Perch is a 9/16-oz Midnight Snack to which he clips a nickel #5 Colorado spinner blade.
At right is Shane's father-in-law with two Murray Cod caught 10 March 2008 with Secret Weapon spinnerbaits. On 14 May 2008, Dykes reported, "Caught 4 Murray Cod today on the Midnight snack with nickel blades. The biggest fish would have been about 6 lb. [This combination] works well in clear water. I used it with the black blade in December when the water was cloudy. This would be the most successful colour from the secretweapon range I have.
