Re: [fishingtheusaandcanada] Long-range CASTING

Aloha,

Paul is right. There are rods and reels capable of
casting long distances. In Hawaii, the shorefisher
use 12 to 13 foot rods, with conventional reels like
Penn Senator 6/0 and regularly make casts to 100yds
and more. In recent long distance casting competition
in Hawaii, guys have casted more than 900 feet! These
outfits are used to catch Ulua, or Giant Trevally
which grow over 100 lbs. I have seen them handle
large reef and tiger sharks.

I have never heard of a catapult. You know, you could
always hook up a gas power radio control boat and drag
a line out. But if you are going to that extremes,
you ought just buy a boat...and catch sharks from
that.
