Re: [fishingtheusaandcanada] Fishing Alaska

Richard,

I live in Ak and will start some research for you. I can already tell
you that Halibut season is not too far off and Homer is a hot spot for
that and you can google search in the meantime.

Russian River in that same area is one of the most beautiful places in
Ak and Salmon fishing is awesome there.......however, so are the brown
bears and people have been mauled in the area for not following "bear
watch rules". It is awesomely beautiful and the fishing is wonderful
but please when you come here remember safety for you AND the wildlife
comes first. Not preaching. I have seen first hand what a brown bear
can do. When we don't respect the wild life, we can get hurt and the
bear ALWAYS dies if the game warden can find the bear. Sometimes the
wrong bear dies.

Having said that, the Salcha area has some good Salmon fishing as well.
If you come toward the Fairbanks area, you could also make a trip
through Denali Park if you drive.

There is a place in Anchorage that you can rent travel campers (can't
think of what they're called) but that gives you the advantage of doing
your own thing at your own pace.

Remember with Salmon fishing, different species run at different times
so depending on how much time you will have here you could "hit every
green light" and get to fish for alot of diff species.

Also, out of Homer you could take a day trip with "Emerald" something or
other who will take you up in the float plane to watch the bears during
the salmon run. I will get that to you after I google it cause I can't
remember their info but I have friends that have taken that trip with
them over the last 5 years and highly recommend them.

Lots to enjoy here, even when your main objective is fishing. I hope
your trip is a good one and please post pictures after your trip if you
get the chance.

Dianne in Fairbanks
