The number of salmon has hit historic lows.
WHERE DO THE SALMON COME FROM?
The Sacramento River's spawning grounds provide most of the salmon caught off the coasts of California and Oregon.
WHY THE COLLAPSE? Scientists blame numerous environmental factors including poor ocean conditions, pollution and water diversions from the Sacramento River to Central Valley farmers.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Salmon prices could rise to $30 a pound for Alaska wild salmon. Farm-raised salmon also will be available.
