Re: [fishingtheusaandcanada] new member

Here's a great fish story (and yes, it's true):  2001  Mid spring on the Southern California Pacific.  A few friends got a 6-pack charter out of Dana Point.  We reserved the boat in November because this guy (sorry I don't remember the Capt. or the boat) was supposed to have a knack for getting on top of the target.  In Dana Point Harbor he said there were reports of the yellowtail "eating the paint off the boats!"  He added cautiously there were reports of albacore at such and such sea mount but no guarentees--what do we want to do?  We looked at each other and said in four-part harmony, "the albacore."

We slept the night while he and his deck hand got us to a spot that did have a bite or two for about an hour.  Then all hell broke loose.  The four of us all got a hookup and, as tuna usually do, began a circular fight.  The deck hand had his back to the gunnal as he eyed the lines and proceeded to lift one of our rod tips and directed it over the person on one side or the other.  This went on until the fourth and last fish was gaffed.  The Captain, perched above us on a flying bridge, then exclaimed in all earnestness, "Good dancin boys!"

Before this I called myself a fisherman, but at that moment I felt that I had truly arrived.

Um, lets see Mich. in February = hard, icy? water.  But that was a gimmie.  Lake Arrowhead is 80 miles east of LA but it's 5,200 ft asl so the weather we had was very snowy.  Clearing now with beautiful clear weather.  No monster large mouths but fairly decent trout and what I think might be small mouth bass...and thet're small.

I have a great story (and true) about a tuna trip on a chartered 6 pack sportfisher thats worth getting... However it's fairly late so I will tell it tomorrow.  Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here.
