Hey Joe,
I have an old Lowrance Globalmap 100 and I use it here in the San Bernardino mountains for remote hiking. I can take the information (in minutes/seconds) and position myself on topo maps. Then, by looking at major peeks, plot where to go and get back by entering way-points on the GPS. However, because of the excess manouvers, I can run out of these after 32. So I must study the way I'm going and pre-dertimine where I want the major navigation points to plot. It has 4 way-point books so 32 becomes 128-- enough to cover all the points I need for a weekend outing... Its memory will keep these but I also like to go to different places which means I have to clear the books. Not to mention I have way-points in Baja for catching different fish. It is old. Although it does a dandy job, a newer one with a bunch more memory and a picture that would "overlay" your maps would be dandy. I expect that one of your models on your study will be with me in the distant future. Wish I could help you spifically but thought you could compare, or contrast as the teachers like to say, the progress going into these units. It is no good at all on dark, featurless nights.
