[fishingtheusaandcanada] First Ulua

Aloha All,

On Good Friday 3-21-08 my son and launched our boat and set out our
soft head lured and headed east toward the E-buoy. About 10 minutes
out of the breakwater we got a strike and my son Kristopher grabbed
the rod and started to reel the fish in. After a while I figured the
fish was not a marlin or mahi mahi because the fish didn't jump.
Then I thought that it wasn't an ono because it was fighting to
hard. I though it might be an ahi (yellowfin tuna) but it didn't
fight in a circle like an ahi either. About 55 minutes later I seen
the leader and leadered the fish to the surface. When the fish got
to the surface it opened it's big mouth and I gaffed it in the mouth
then my son sunk a second gaff into it and got it into the boat. My
son Kristopher started to sceam for joy. Lol He called his grandma
and after he hung up the phone he started to scream again. Lol He
called a couple of friends and a couple of uncles and screamed for
joy after each call. Lol The ocean swells we getting rough and we
decided to go in the weigh the fish so we headed to S. Tokunaga
Store (they have a certified scale there). It weighed in at 40 pound
(Thanks Mike Tokunaga). What a fish my son's first ulua. I will post
some pictures in the photo section.

Aloha Ke Akua (God Bless), Rocky
