INSHORE SALTWATER
 
GENERAL OUTLOOK
 
An optimistic weekend weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 70s and south-southeast breezes up to 12 mph. That warming should bring trout out of the holes, and have reds in the ponds. The big challenge now is the high river. Finding clear water is the key to a successful trip.

(Poor) Delacroix Isle
 
Caernarvon water everywhere. Best spots: Search for clean water in Wreck Bay, Lake John, Twin Pipelines, Four Horse Lake, Oak River, Lake Fausan, Baker's Bay. Best baits: Sparkle beetles (clear and chartreuse) under a cork.
 
(Fair) Hopedale
 
Scattered specks and reds. Best spots: Edges of Lake Fortuna, Lake Machias, along the MR-GO rocks, drifting Bayou La Loutre from Stump to Drum Bay, Stump Lagoon, Bayou St. Malo, Lake Robin, Lake Coquille, Deadman's Island, Short Rocks, Lake Ameda. Best baits: Plastics on the bottom under a rattling cork including Berkley Gulp! Shrimp (pearl, New Penny), Saltwater Assassin (Opening Night), Deadly Dudley (Blue Moon/chartreuse tail), sparkle beetles (chartreuse), plastic cockahoes (chartreuse); reds taking fresh shrimp, spoons, plastic cockahoes with gold spinners.
 
Reggio
 
Specks and reds in clearer water. Best spots: Lake Amadee, Lake Robin, Bayou Batolo, Reggio Canal, Petain Lagoon, Tanasia's Lagoon. Best baits: DOA (clear), Gulp! Shrimp (milk) under a cork drift fishing.
 
(Fair) Shell Beach
 
Specks, reds, sheepshead. Best spots: Sheepshead in Lena's, trout inside bayous in the deeper holes of Bayou St. Malo, Bayou Sue, Bayou Grande, Stump Lagoon, Bayou Muscelini. Best baits: Live cockahoes on a Carolina rig, sparkle beetles (clear, chartreuse), Gulp! Shrimp (glo), Deadly Dudley, plastic cockahoes.
 
(Poor) Bayou Bienvenue
 
Scattered trout, reds, white trout and drum. Best spots: Lake Borgne shoreline from the mouth of Bayou Bienvenue to the Castle, MR-GO washouts, Intracoastal cuts, Violet Locks, Dike Canal. Best baits: DOA shrimp (clear, shrimp,) Gulp! Shrimp.
 
(Poor) The Chef
 
Poor weather, low water, few anglers. Suggestions: If water rises and clears, try the rocks on the Lake Pontchartrain side, Third Island Bayou, Bayou Platt, Bayou Bob, Unknown Pass on the Lake St. Catherine side. Best baits: Plastic cockahoe (tuxedo), Deadly Dudley Terror Tail (green), gold spoons, sparkle beetles.
 
(Fair) The Rigolets
 
Mostly reds, scattered trout. Best spots: Geohagen Canal, shorelines of Lake St. Catherine, Unknown Pass at Lake St. Catherine, Rigolets shorelines, Biloxi Marsh. Best baits: Deadly Dudley Terror Tail (Blue Moon/chartreuse tail), DOA, Gulp!
 
(Poor) Lafitte
 
Scattered reds, trout. Best spots: Texaco Canals, north side of Lake Salvador, Bay L'ours, Bay Round. Best baits: Plastic cockahoes (black/chartreuse tail), sparkle beetles, gold spoons.
 
(Fair) Happy Jack-Port Sulphur
Reds, drum, scattered trout. Best spots: Shorelines of Bay Sanbois, Magnolia canals away from the siphon, Rattlesnake, The Mining Area, Grand Bayou shorelines and run-outs. Best baits: Market bait, gold spoons, live minnows, sparkle beetles (dark green, chartreuse/red dot, black, glo) plastic cockahoes (black/chartreuse tail), gold spoons.
 
(Poor) Pointe a la Hache
 
Few anglers, high rivers and siphons running. Find clear water, you can find fish. Best spots: Look around Oak River, Second Lake, Third Lake, Wreck Bay Bayou, Big Four Bayou, Little Four Bayou, Thorntree Bayou, Bay Coquille off Charles Bayou, Oyster Bayou, Grand Pointe Bay, Pointe a la Hache Bay, Bay Lafourche, American Bay. Best baits: On the bottom with sparkle beetles (chartreuse, glo), Saltwater Assassin (Opening Night); when it warms up use topwater baits (Top Dog, Jr.), Stacy King, suspended bait.

(Good) Venice
 
Plenty reds, some trout. Best spots: Edges of the passes, including Southeast Pass, South Pass, Dixon Bay, rocks at Southwest Pass, Tante Phine Pass, Red Pass, with clear water. Best baits: Plastic cockahoes (black/chartreuse) under a cork, gold spoons.
 
(Fair) Grand Isle-Fourchon
 
Sheepshead, drum, some reds and trout. Best spots: Louisiana 1 Canal from Fourchon to Grand Isle, Bayou L'ours, Bay Rambeau. Best baits: Live cockahoes, Berkeley Gulp! (shrimp) Saltwater Assassin (chartreuse, smoke), bulls want cut crab and mullet.
 
OFFSHORE
 
GENERAL OUTLOOK
 
Rough weather and slow fishing have produced few reports. Big-game anglers still waiting for tuna and wahoo to show in force.
 
FRESHWATER

Marsh bass fishing hot.
 
(Good) St. Bernard
 
Bass. Best spots: Reggio Canal, Schooner Canal, Bayou Robin, Spanish Lake, Lake Lery, Caernarvon Canals. Best baits: Beetle spins (yellow/black, chartreuse), plastic worms (purple, Tequila, pumpkin seed), buzz baits.
 
(Good) Lafitte
 
Bass, sac-a-lait. Best spots: The Pen, Blue Point, Service Canal, Delta Farms, Lake Cataouatche grass beds, Salvador Management Area, Bayou Dupont. Best baits: Fly rod popping bugs (chartreuse Peck's Popper), Baby Brush Hog (red), one-quarter-ounce spinners (black/chartreuse tails), plastic worms, (black/blue, red shad), sac-a-lait want jigs (blue/white, black/chartreuse).
